The footprints that humans leave on the natural environment can be seen for a long time. Our mere presence affects nature in subtle but significant ways, like the light from our cities upsetting the natural rhythms of fireflies. When harvesting natural environments, our damage can be long lasting, impacting climate and ecosystems. Yet through it all, nature adapts to us, and reclaims the spaces we abandon.

No Entry While Mill is Operating is a response to the work being done at Spring Bay Mill to help nature restore the balance. Set in an old woodchip bunker on the Spring Bay Mill site, this immersive work features lights, projections and soundtrack designed especially for this reverberant environment. The work tracks the human impact and nature’s response, as it seeks to reclaim its space. Oh, and there’s also a bar located inside the artwork, so you can properly immerse yourself.
